Introduction to Genetic Engineering-Bacterial Transformation Lab
No image available
Students will explore the fundamental concepts of genetic engineering as they use a plasmid as a vector to transform the bacterium E.coli with a gene for antibiotic resistance. They’ll then design an experiment to identify the antibiotic-resistant transformed cells. As they do, they’ll learn the biological process of transformation and calculate transformation efficiency. Contains materials for eight student groups.
Class size 40 students.
