Intermediate Nuclear Lab Station (IBM PC Compatible)
Our Intermediate Nuclear Lab System brings new dimensions to the study of Nuclear Science and radiation monitoring. By using a specialized microcontroller, many of the features previously found only in multiple products are now combined in a single inexpensive instrument. The classical nuclear scaler function has been extended to include a timer, preset counter, digital ratemeter with alarm, computer interface and optional battery power for field applications. The addition of preset count mode can be extremely useful when constant counting statistics are required, and the digital ratemeter is ideal for contamination survey work. The alarm level may be set to any pre-selected value and if the count rate exceeds this level, an audible alarm is sounded warning of a high activity condition.

Fully Variable Voltage
For plotting Geiger-Mueller tube plateaus, the high voltage supply is fully variable from 0 to +1200 volts. The supply is fully regulated and controlled by the processor for digital accuracy and readout on the display, and is compatible with many modern GM tubes.

Convenience and Functionality
Extra large LED's are used for the digital display for clear visual readout under widely differing ambient light conditions. Leading zeros are suppressed for clarity. Classroom demonstrations and nuclear experiments may now be run directly from an IBM-PC compatible computer using the on-line serial Data-Link built into the unit. All functions of the Radiation Counter are accessible and controlled from the computer including the high voltage setting for the GM tube. The Radiation Counter-PC software supplied produces computer screen displays of all functions including analog emulation of the ratemeter mode. Real-time data is automatically transferred to the computer and stored in spreadsheet compatible files. Data analysis and graphical presentation is now possible using many common spreadsheet programs bringing new techniques to Nuclear Science education.

Easily Converts to Portable Unit
Optional batteries may be installed in the unit making it fully portable. An AC to DC line converter/charger is supplied for continuous benchtop operation with or without the batteries installed.

Extra Large GM Tube Detector Assembly.
The large 35 mm GM tube increases counting efficiency and features a thin window for alpha, beta and gamma detection. The stand assembly contains ten shelves for supporting radiation sources or absorbers, providing extra range for absorption and inverse law experiments. Software controls ensure accurate records. The software supplied produces computer screen displays of all functions including analog emulation of the ratemeter mode. All functions of the radiation counter are accessible and controlled from the computer including the high voltage setting for the GM tube. Valuable Components
Also included is a set of 5 radioactive sources (U41512) containing 1 each of Cs-137, Co-60, Sr-90, Tl-204 and
Po-210, emitting a range of alpha, beta and gamma radiations. This set is ideal for demonstration and introductory nuclear labs covering basic characteristics of radiation. In addition, a set of 20 calibrated radiation absorbers (four lead, ten aluminum sheets, two polyethylene, two plastic, and two aluminum foil absorbers) covers the range from 4.5 to 7400 mg/cm2 and consisting of aluminum plastic and lead plates is included. These absorbers are suitable for absorption studies with Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation. A student lab manual covering a wide range of topics is also included. A Teacher's Guide is included which is intended for instructors and provides valuable insight and commentary on the experiments covered in the student lab guide as well as information on selecting equipment, licensing, disposal, legal aspects and typical experimental results.
