Demonstration Monochord
Demonstration apparatus for investigating the relationship between the pitch of a sound and the length of the string making it. Also for investigating overtones formed by harmonic waves with intermediate nodes and the dependence of the pitch on string tension.
Two steel strings and one nylon string are stretched over a sound box. The tension on two of the strings can be altered by tuning pegs while the other's tension can be changed by adding weights or using a dynamometer at the end of a cord passed over a pulley. The effective length of the strings can be altered by means of two moving bridges.
