Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique used for medical diagnosis. It is used in many different medical areas not only by radiologists, but also by medical non-radiologists and sonographer or ultrasound technicians. Ultrasound simulation or ultrasound skill training is part of the clinical training of medical students and ultrasound technician trainees. In order to apply the theoretical anatomical knowledge, they will first practice on medical ultrasound simulators. These special ultrasound skill trainers offer training of ultrasound with normal anatomy as well as an extensive range of pathologies. Trainees will learn the following ultrasound diagnosis skills:
  • To perform common examinations safely and accurately
  • To recognize and differentiate normal anatomy and pathologies
  • To diagnose common abnormalities within certain organ systems
  • To recognize when a referral for a second opinion is indicated
  • To understand the relationship between ultrasound imaging and other diagnostic techniques
  • To perform common, non-complex ultrasound guided invasive procedures

Ultrasound is used as a diagnosis technique across many medical areas, such as:
  • Urological ultrasound
  • Gynecological ultrasound
  • Gastrointestinal ultrasound
  • Vascular ultrasound
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Thoracic ultrasound
  • Cranial ultrasounds in infants
  • Focused emergency ultrasound
  • Intensive care ultrasound
  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound
